Shared Lives
is an arrangement where individuals and families in the local community
(shared lives carers) provide accommodation and support for adults with
learning difficulties who need some help to live the lives they choose.
Shared Lives
carers can provide a whole range of different services and support like day
time support, some where to stay for a short break, a place to develop
independent living skills or a permanent home.
Is
this an activity/service ONLY for people
with learning difficulties?
Yes. Currently
this service is only for people with Learning Difficulties
Does a person
need to have an assessment to take part
in this activity?
Yes. A social
worker/care manager needs to do an assessment using Fair Access to Care criteria
to establish the person’s need and make the referral to Shared Lives if it is
appropriate.
Shared Lives
will then assess and match people with Shared Lives carers.
Is there a
charge for the activity/service?
No. Currently this is a Local Authority funded service.
Is transport
provided?
Some Shared Lives carers provide transport of their own but if
transport is required the social worker will liaise with the scheme and
arrange appropriate transport.
